Acting Department

Acting Technique

  • This is the first level in our acting program. This is where students start learning the basic elements of acting. We learn the basics through a combination of Meisner and Adler techniques. We teach students proper line memorization, how to perform and prepare for scenes, proper vocal usage and warm-ups and how to perform monologues. This is the level where teachers help students break down any previously learned bad acting habits that prevent the student from being honest, natural and vulnerable when they perform.

(Due to the dedication necessary in acting, all our acting classes following this level are part of the Preprofessonal Division.)

This class culminates in a short film performed in the Spring semester performance.

Students that do well in this class have the potential to be invited into our Preprofessional Division.

Screenwriting

  • Students learn the structure and elements that go into writing a screen play as well as story structure, character development and writing for actors. They learn the difference between writing short and feature length films as well as writing for TV.

As students progress as writers they have the opportunity to join our writers room and help write scripts for our beginner acting students.

As students get older they also learn the ins and outs of the professional field.

Stage Combat

  • This class is an introduction to stage combat while incorporating creature/animal like movements you would use in motion capture films. (Safety Note: Students must be able to control their own bodies and be good listeners to attend this class)

  • Stage combat is the illusion of physical contact/combat without causing harm. Students will learn how to safely perform realistic looking fight sequences while acting out a scene. Combat styles will include hand to hand combat, sword fighting and knives. (All weapons are plastic or dulled.)

(Safety Note: Students must be able to control their own bodies and be good listeners to attend this class.)

Improv Comedy
