Ballet Curriculums

Elementary Division Classes

  • Creative Ballet is an exciting introductory class for the young artist! This class is meticulously designed to ensure that students have proper somatic patterns and skills to successfully move forward in our higher level curriculums. In addition, this class focuses on helping the little ones understand appropriate classroom behavior, organic self expression and how to support other artist’s diverse creativity. All of this is done while developing gross motor skills and strong spatial and physical awareness. This class sets a base for dance terminology that will be used in higher levels. This class helps our young ones maintain their natural creativity and individualism as they grow!

  • This class begins to teach students proper anatomical technique, focusing on proper placement of the body. This class ensures that students remain safe and have a really solid technical foundation to move forward into more advanced levels. We begin to implement 6th and 1st positions, focusing on foot placement and articulation, proper rotation from the hip and spine alignment. This class learns the class structures of warm-up, across the floor and center work. Our emphasis on individual artistry is heightened here.

  • Ballet Prep is our PreProfessional Prep Class. At this level students are expected to have a solid understanding of technique and anatomical placement. They are to understand proper classroom behavior and a passion for dance. In this class, students have a more advanced and technical warm-up, they get to use the barres for the first time. Our across the floor and center exercises help students to develop a strong base for traveling movements in ballet, modern and jazz. If students perform well in this class it can lead to an invitation into our PreProfessional Division. If not, or if they have a desire to dance recreationally, after this class they may move to Ballet Level A in the Elementary Division to continue their education. *Elementary Ballet Pre-Requisite is strongly recommended

Hip Hop Curriculums

Elementary Division Classes

  • This class teaches students hip hop terminology and choreography with a strong emphasis on hip hop foundation. Along with foundational steps and grooves, students will also expand upon a more current exploration of hip hop choreography. The goal of this class is to not only explore the culture and history of hip hop dance, but to also allow dancers to explore their own rhythm and find new ways to move their body.

  • This class builds upon already learned hip hop fundamentals by introducing more advanced grooves and incorporating them into choreography. Students will begin to learn other styles of hip hop including house and footwork, popping, and basic breaking. With a basic understanding of the history and intentions of hip hop dance (hip hop was created as a way to have fun, socialize, and communicate with friends), students will be able to play with implementing these ideals within the class setting. For example, Cyphers will be a regular occurrence in class as they teach students how to dance to the beat, cheer one another on, and find their own ways of moving by breaking free from set choreography.

  • Once they’ve completed the core Hip Hop curriculum, students may choose to continue studying Hip Hop in the Elementary Division. Students In the Elementary Division will progress through Levels A, B, C and so on.

Tap Curriculums

Elementary Division Classes

  • This class is designed to give young dancers an introduction to the styles of Tap and Jazz in an upbeat environment. The class is split up into two half-hour sections, allowing students the ability to have a change of pace throughout their time in class. This class ensures students develop the proper technique to progress into higher levels of both Tap and Jazz, and places a strong emphasis on fine motor skills (through weight shifts and footwork), understanding rhythm, and emphasizing artistry.

  • This class is designed for dancers who are either new to Tap or have previous Tap experience. At this level, students will learn Tap technique and rhythm. This class does progress quickly, as there are both beginners and students with a year of experience in the class. At this level, students will execute a more technical warm-up in the center and will not use music so that they can hone in on their own sounds and maintain a consistent tempo as a class. During this class, we begin to teach more advanced tap skills such as buffalos and maxi-fords, putting together more basic steps into complex patterns.
